For the first time since 1998, an Arsenal player has won the Fifa World Cup. Cesc came in the 85th minute and came close to scoring a goal before making a through ball for Iniesta to score the winning goal for Spain. Robin Van Persie stated after the game that the officiating was awful, saying,
‘What was this man doing. He made three big errors in extra time of a World Cup final. Believe me, this really hurts.
‘Even after Heitinga’s red card I still felt we could be world champions. With penalty kicks we’d at least have a 50 per cent chance.
‘He whistled four minutes from time, but not for a corner, and later overlooks Iniesta being in an offside position.
‘Iniesta should not have been on the pitch because he kicked Van Bommel. He also should have shown (Carles) Puyol a second yellow card for trying to knock down (Arjen) Robben.
‘I don’t say it’s only down to the referee. We missed a very good chance. But the referee has been decisive.
“All I can say is that this World Cup victory is for all the Arsenal players and fans. They are a world-class club.”I had a text message of congratulations from Arsene Wenger. He said I deserve it. I just think this is for everyone at Arsenal who helped me get to where I am now. I am an Arsenal player and proud to be.”
There are also rumours that Arsene and Barca were supposed to meet yesterday, but Wenger refused to go into talks once again stating that Fabregas is not for sale. I doubt that Barca will stop to get Fabregas until the last-minute of the transfer window, even though Arsenal won’t enter negotiations with them. Fabregas is also said to have bought a £2 million house in St Albans. If that is the case then that could be the biggest hint yet that Cesc could be staying with Arsenal.
Arsenal are reported to be making a new bid for Mark Schwarzer. Mark Schwarzer might have more class than Almunia and Fabianski, but we should be signing a younger goalkeeper that has lots of talent. I can see only see him staying for a couple of years before retiring and giving the first team shirt to Wojijieccecech Sczczcenzsseny.
Serdar Tasci, a German defender, is said to be keen to join Arsenal or Spurs, after last week reporting that he would prefer a move to the gunners. Tasci’s agent, Uli Ferber, stated,
“The situation is that Serdar is aware of the interest from the Premier League, and he is eager to play in England at some point during his career.”
“However he will not make a decision on his future until after the World Cup as that is more important at the moment. But, he is a fan of the Premier League and the football played in England.
“Serdar respects both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and in Europe. He would love to play for such a well-supported club. Also he is a fan of Arsene Wenger, the work he has done, and has great respect for him.”
Tasci is 6ft 1inch, 23 years old, and plays regularly for Stuttgart. He is a great talent and Wenger should be open to signing him.
Joe Cole is currently a could join any moment, but might not sign at all. He has stated where he ill be playing next season, Wenger says we don’t need another midfielder, but apparently he could sign any moment. Joe Cole would definitely get playing time if he joined Arsenal, for the injuries to Walcott, he should be starting every week.
