Arsenal finally registered their first win of the new premier league season with an unconvincing 1-0 win over Swansea. Andrey Arshavin’s 40th minute goal was enough to get the three points for Arsenal. His goal came from a disastrous mistake from Swansea keeper Michael Vorm, who tried messed up his clearance allowing Andrey Arshavin to provide a fine left-footed finish into the corner of an empty net. Arsenal then went on to secure the three points. Here are some thoughts on the game.
- Mertesacker will be a good defender. I believe Arsenal’s new 6ft 6in centre back did quite well for his premier league debut. He was beaten in the 6th minute of the game by Danny Graham to test Szczesny, but he also performed some crucial blocks in the 25th and 36th minute.
- Szczesny is a very, very good keeper. Made a terrific save from Danny Graham in the 6th minute to deny Swansea from scoring their first ever Premier League goal, and made some crucial catches. His only fault came in the 93rd minute where a lap of concentration almost let Swansea equalize.
- Arteta looks like he has already fit in. Arteta proved in the first half why we signed him. Dominating the midfield and feeding a really good ball to Aaron Ramsey were his best moments of the game.
- Frimpong isn’t quite ready to be playing every week. He is a one of Arsenal’s most promising players, but today you can see that he is lacking experience. Lost way too many balls in midfield and unsuccessfully tried showboating on a few occasions. Wenger must explain that he needs to stop making silly challenges and start working more on the simple things.
