Thank Goodness for that! It only took 92 minutes for us to take the lead, and it was truly a goal worth waiting for.
Here are some quick thoughts:
- Koscielny is class and could keep Mertesacker out of the starting line up when Vermaelen returns from injury. His reading of the game was vital for us, and he made some good interceptions and tackles.
- Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be given an opportunity over Arshavin and Walcott. Theo Walcott today showed the good and the bad. His pass-to-himself in the first half was sublime, yet his dribbling and passing wasn’t too good. He faded out of the game many times and seemed rather predictable when he had the ball. Arshavin was completely non existent. Had very few touches and like his fellow counterpart, he was non-existent as well.
- This game was rather important. Arsenal now sit top of the group with 7 points, 4 points ahead of 3rd place Olympiacos, and 1 point ahead of Marseille. Arsenal are in pole position to at least finish second in the group, and with 2 home games to be played, no one will back against them topping the group.
