Arsenal’s eight point difference over 4th place has now been cut to 2 after Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Swansea. Chelsea plays Wigan and can also come within 2 points of 4th. Keeping that in mind, Arsenal plays Manchester City, who will be looking only for a win, to try and keep 3rd place. The table could start to turn in Chelsea and Newcastle’s favor unless we win the 3 points.
Arsenal were on a very, very good run, winning 7 straight against teams that were rather good. Liverpool (a), Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Sunderland (a), Blackburn, and Everton (a) were all great wins, but then we went to a QPR team that was struggling in 18th place. They may have had slight hopes after coming behind to beat Liverpool 3-2, but most people would have expected Arsenal to win. Maybe Arsenal was becoming complacent, but it was a big 3 points dropped in my opinion. Arsenal really needs to put that game behind them and continue their good form.
Manchester City is on a rather bad form of late, dropping points in three of their last 4 games, including two draws off the back against Stoke and Sunderland. Manchester City is a team that doesn’t look to have any chemistry between any of the players, as they seem to hate each other. Balotelli is a bad player in the dressing room but should not be given too much space. He doesn’t have a high work rate so I don’t expect him to be much of a struggle to our defence. We need to worry more about the likes of Tevez!, Aguero, and Silva.
Arsenal have been scoring goals lately, which is good, however I feel that we need to be more dynamic in our passing and shooting. Van Persie hasn’t scored a goal in his last 3 games but has seemed to be fairly active and unlucky in all of them. Walcott is on a good run of form and I expect him to maybe grab a sneaky one against his England team-mate.
Arsene Wenger needs to get his lineup right if he is going to challenge City’s defence. That means NO Ramsey on left wing. I am hoping for a lineup like this: Szczesny, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Sagna, Arteta, Song, Rosicky, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Van Persie, Waclott
The bottom line is:
- Arsenal needs 3 points to distance themselves from Chelsea and Newcastle.
- We need to win to get more confidence into going into the last parts of the season.
- 5 points above gives us a major boost.
