What an interesting way Arsenal try to please their fans by making sure that the final day will determine whether or not we will finish above Spurs and get Champions League Football. This game was one with great significance. Anything other than a win would’ve meant our future lying in the filthy palms of Tottenham, a future that I would not want to endure had Arsenal not taken advantage of Wigan’s poor defending. Nevertheless, Arsenal had some real passion to win today and definitely deserved the victory. Here are some match thoughts:
- Walcott is a bomb waiting to tick off. His performance was brilliant in my opinion. Not only did he attack with venom in his stride, he also defended very well. Walcott playing like this every week would be absolutely superb. Also, his celebration showed how much he cares for the club.
- Cazorla was superb. 4 assists. 8 chances created. He really shined today by making some superb passes and determination to win every ball.
- Gibbs showed why he is so highly regarded by Arsene Wenger. When I learned that Monreal wasn’t starting, I was surprised. He is a very solid defender and Gibbs had been injured for a couple of weeks. He sure did prove me wrong. His defending and attacking was top class. There were not many balls that Gibbs did not win in the box and all of his tackles came out on top. Well done Kieran.
- Our future is now in our hands. Anything other than a win today would have been disastrous. Arsenal have not had a good season, yet somehow they are on the verge of finishing in the top 4. The least we could have wanted in February was to be in this situation. Let’s hope that Arsenal come up against Newcastle with some real firepower and give the fans something to celebrate!
