Another day goes by in this transfer window were we are a little bit more confused. There were reports yesterday that the Higuain deal was set to be completed, once a fee was agreed. People may have had hope that a deal could be completed and announced today, but I believe that all the reports suggesting that the Higuain deal was done were premature. The story was ever-changing, as the price of the transfer bounced around from £20m-£50m. Also, many of the reports quoted the Daily Mail as their main news source.
In news today, there is a rumour going on that Real Madrid have gone ahead and the sanctioned the sale of Higuain, instead of waiting for a new manager to come in. If this is true, it would be a big positive for the transfer, as it was reported earlier that a deal could not be done until Real Madrid had announced their new manager. Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancellotti is the man who is believed to be the next Real Madrid manager.
Juventus sporting director Beppe Marotta talked about the Higuain transfer:
Higuain? He remains a target for Juventus.
I do not want to say anything because there is still so much time and so many things can happen.
To my knowledge, Higuain is already elsewhere.
Juventus are still after Higuain, but it is believed that they are more interested in signing Jovetic and Tevez. His final quote could be a positive for Arsenal, as it suggests that he is close to joining. Still, we have had clubs come and take players off of our doorstep when they were believed to be on the verge of joining. Juan Mata is one that comes to mind in particular.
In other news, Liverpool are going to sign Mignolet which can effect Arsenal in a couple of different ways. First of all, it could mean that Pepe Reina is on his way out the door. Arsenal have been linked with him for some tim now, so Arsenal could be set to make a bid for him. However, Reina is a favourite to join Barcelona, since Victor Valdes had announced his intentions to leave the club at the end of his contract. Also, there are reports that Vito Mannone could be joining Liverpool as a back up goalkeeper. If he does leave, I think that Arsene would go for a keeper, since Fabianski’s future is very much undecided.
Finally, some Croatian defender named Tin Jedvaj is a transfer target for Arsenal. He is 17 years old, plays for Dinamo Zagreb, and the Croatia Under 19 and 17 teams. He made 17 appearances for Zagreb last season, in his first year of professional football. Not sure what to make of the deal if he does join. Surely he wouldn’t be in the first team, so he would go to the reserves for a couple of seasons before offloading him off to some Championship club. Have you ever noticed that Arsenal haven’t had too many good youth defenders come up through the system?
That’s all for today. Have a fantastic Friday.
