Saturday Round Up

Good afternoon,

Not much going on once again. There are a few rumours popping up here and there but none of them look to have any real substance to them. Since Arsenal are usually dead quiet during the weekends, you can expect that nobody will be signing or leaving, although Mannone is pretty to close to the exit door. I’m not sure why Arsenal do that. Liverpool announced two signings last weekend, and have been getting deals done quickly and early. Arsenal, on the other hand, are still working on signing a 20 year old French striker who has played less than 30 games in his career.

The biggest news regarding Arsenal comes in the manner that we are going to make a bid for Julio Cesar for something of around £2m. Getting a goalkeeper is not something I would have done personally, but since he is experienced and will only cost two million, then you really can’t go wrong with that. With Mannone heading to Sunderland, we are only going to have Szczesny and Fabianksi, unless we promote Damian Martinez to the first team. It’s a signing I can see Arsene making, but it’s not one I would have wanted this early. We need to be signing players like Higuain and Fellaini first, or else some other team are going to gazump them from us. Nobody likes a bad gazumper.

One player who has been linked to Arsenal that I don’t really understand is Ashley Williams. We have three good centre backs, a good defensive partnership, and they are all going to stay. Why would be going for a £10m overrated defender? Still, many people are linking him to us, although the whole thing is probably just speculation.

Finally, David Villa may be off to Tottenham. If you remember, Villa was an Arsenal target in the January transfer window, yet Arsenal made no bid for him. He is 31-years old and past his prime in my opinion. Some of his performances for Barcelona this season were very sub par and he hasn’t been in the Spain starting XI in the Confederations Cup, with Torres being preferred over him. He still can be a good player, but he is not the player we need or the player we deserve. He can go to Tottenham for all I care.

That’s all from me today. Have a good rest of your day.
