Just a short post today as there is not that much to report on. Arsenal have made their first signing of the Summer and are getting ready for preseason to start tomorrow, with many young hopefuls hoping to get a place on the tour to Asia. There were some reports suggesting that Arsene wanted the Higuain transfer wrapped up before tomorrow, but considering we have no idea how far along that transfer has come, it looks highly unlikely.
One player who will be participating in preseason with the Gunners is 20 year French striker Yaya Sanogo. Sanogo scored 10 goals in 13 appearances last season for Auxerre, which is a pretty good return, even though it is only the Ligue 2. The boy does have a history of injuries and came close to becoming a postman, a decision that I’m sure he would have regretted after a couple of hours. Anyways, there is really not too many reasons for Arsenal fans to be upset over this transfer. He was a free agent, he’s 20 years old, and he has enormous potential. He can become the next Thierry Henry for all we know. For those of you that are upset that we signed him instead of Higuain, you have to be reasonable. He was a free and easy transfer that may or may not work out. He isn’t going to take anybody’s place in the squad and probably won’t be on the bench for most games. There is still plenty of room for Higuain to fit in.
Another person that has joined the team is Jerry Flannery, a former rugby player. Flannery used to play for Munster but then retired due to a long sustaining calf injury. He then went on to study at the University of Limerick where he completed a masters in sports performance. He is going to work as a strength and conditioning coach, to get us to be more like Stoke. I believe that the Arsenal players need to be bulked up a little bit in order to compete for the title. In order to win games, you have to be solid defensively, and with the midfield being as string cheesed as they are, it’s hard to stop some teams from getting through our midfield. A little bit of strength in there would be nice.
