Another day is passing, and still no new transfer in comings to report of. The players are back in for preseason today, Wenger is working hard to find some bargains, and we are wondering what is going on.
In transfer news today, one of our longest serving players at the club, Vito Mannone, has finally completed his move to Sunderland. The news comes to no surprise as it was reported to have been done a week ago. Mannone was a player that I’ve always had mixed opinions of. Some days, he showed great potential and looked like he can start for a big club. However, he did make many errors during the course of his career. I wish him all the best for the future.
Another player who looks to be going out the door is Nicklas Bendtner, who is heading to German side Frankfurt. The deal looks set to be completed by the end of the week, as he has already had a representative in Frankfurt to make the deal happen. Bendtner was out on loan the whole of last season to Juventus, where he flopped miserably. The big Dane hasn’t scored a league goal in well over a year now, so it’s no surprise that he is heading for the exit. Bendtner was another who had an up and down career at Arsenal. Some optimistic people believed he would be a 20 goal striker at the club, but you always knew that he didn’t quite have the skill. He missed many sitters, and then pretended to chew some invisible gum afterwards. Still, he’s the best player in the world and I wish him well for the future.
A few weeks ago, I believed that the club was going to sign at least one of the following players: Fellaini, Rooney, Higuain, and Fabregas. Now, it seems like we would be lucky to get close to signing one of them. It’s incredibly saddening when you see your club being linked to Gareth Barry and Clement Grenier after weeks of speculation of the players I listed before. Wenger and Gazidis are doing a good job to disappoint us right now, as no news is being reported of us getting any closer to signing a player that can make us champions. Clement Grenier said that Lyon had rejected an offer from Arsenal:
“Today I cannot say if I will extend my contract,” said Grenier.
“I know Lyon have rejected an offer from Arsenal. Of course it’s flattering that clubs are interested in me.”
“It’s hard for me to talk about my future now because I’m not yet certain of it. I prefer to wait to be 100% sure of what is going to happen before I do it.
Why are we going for a 22 year old who has only played who has only played 59 league games in his career, and only 2 games for the French national team? Plus, if Lyon have rejected a bid from us, he is way overpriced as he doesn’t look at all special to me. Seriously, Wenger only wants us to sign these players that are quite average and then we get fourth and they are stuck with us for the next four seasons. If he was ambitious enough to win the Premier League, then he would make serious offers for players like Fellaini and Rooney. If not, then Tottenham will overtake us for sure. They have just signed the 3rd best player at the Confederations Cup Paulinho, are set to sign to highly rated Croatian players, and have stated that they are 100% keeping their best player, no matter how much money they will get. It is really disappointing to see how uninterested we look in actually competing in the transfer market.
Finally, I leave you with a video of a trailer for the new Arsenal away kit. It is going to be modeled after the invincibles season.
